Rarest Explosion in Rocket League

Rarest Goal Explosions in Rocket League 2026

The rarest Rocket League goal explosions ranked. See why Hot Wheels RC Rivals is #1, plus Dueling Dragons and Tactical Nuke—and which are still obtainable vs permanently gone.

Rocket League has hundreds of goal explosions. Some show up in the Item Shop regularly. Some can be grinded through blueprints or drops. However, not all goal explosions are of the same value. Although there is no official rarity for goal explosions, the community considers certain goal explosions way rarer than others because of their scarcity, price, or exclusivity.

But have you ever wondered which goal explosion is considered to be the rarest? It’s the Hot Wheels RC Rivals Goal Explosion. And the Hot Wheels explosion is just the start; there are other Goal Explosions that are considered rare because of their one-time appearance, or an extremely hard-to-grind method.

What is the Rarest Goal Explosion in Rocket League?

The Hot Wheels RC Rivals Goal Explosion holds the top spot according to the community. Why?

What makes it stand above everything else on this list comes down to three things. It was tied to a physical product that cost $179.99. The codes that unlocked it expired after August 2020.

Compare that to something like the Dueling Dragons, which is undeniably rare, but still technically obtainable through blueprints and chance drops. Or Tactical Nuke, which required 83 days of active Twitch Prime subscription, but was at least a digital path anyone could theoretically take. The Hot Wheels explosion had none of that. It required you to buy a specific toy set, in a specific window of time, and know it existed in the first place.

Top 10 Rarest Goal Explosions in Rocket League

What actually makes a goal explosion rare? It is not just about being old; it is about how impressive it looks. The key factors are how it was obtained, how long the window to get it was open, how many players could realistically access it, and whether there is any way to get it today. The harder the method, the rarer it is considered by players.

10. Hellfire

Release date: July 5, 2017

How it was obtained: Originally from the Overdrive crate. Available from blueprint drops in the Overdrive and Accelerator series.

Can you get it now? Yes, through blueprint drops and occasional Item Shop appearances.

Hellfire rounds out the list as the most accessible of the top 10, but that does not mean it is easy to find. As another original Overdrive crate Black Market explosion, it shares its origins with Electroshock and Fireworks. The difference is its visual style, a burst of fire and flame that erupts across the goal, which has made it one of the most recognizable explosions in the game for years.

It does not come in Grey, Burnt Sienna, or Orange painted variants, which makes certain painted versions harder to find than others. Like most Black Market explosions on this list, the Titanium White variant has historically been one of the most sought-after and rare versions.

9. Electroshock

Release date: July 5, 2017

How it was obtained: Originally from the Overdrive crate. Available from blueprint drops in the Overdrive series.

Can you get it now? Yes, through Overdrive blueprint drops and occasional Item Shop appearances.

Electroshock is another original Overdrive crate explosion and one of the earliest Black Market goal explosions ever released. When you score, a surge of electric energy explodes outward from the ball. It is one of the most visually clean and satisfying Black Market explosions in the game.

Its rarity today comes largely from age. Players who were around during the Overdrive crate era may have it from opening old crates, but for newer players, it requires either luck from blueprint drops or waiting for an Item Shop rotation. It is obtainable, but definitely not an easy task.

8. Fireworks

Release date: July 5, 2017

How it was obtained: Originally from the Overdrive crate. Available from a wide range of blueprint series and Golden drops. Has appeared in the Item Shop around six times for 2,000 Credits.

Can you get it now? Yes, through blueprint drops and Item Shop appearances.

Fireworks is a Black Market goal explosion that has been in the game since the very beginning of the crate era. It lives up to its name, a chain of explosions fires off in sequence, giving it one of the longest and most dramatic animations of any goal explosion in the game.

Despite being technically obtainable, it is a Black Market Goal Explosion, and the 2,000 Credit price tag keeps it out of reach for many players. Painted variants, particularly the ones that have never appeared in the Item Shop, are considerably harder to find and trade for accordingly. Older players who opened Overdrive crates back in 2017 are among the few with legacy versions of this explosion.

7. Butterflies

Release date: March 19, 2018

How it was obtained: From Spring Fever Series blueprints. Also available in the Item Shop, where it has appeared six times for 800 Credits.

Can you get it now? Yes, through Item Shop appearances and Spring Fever blueprint drops.

Butterflies is an Exotic goal explosion, and it looks exactly like what the name says. When you score, a burst of butterflies fills the screen in place of the usual explosion effect. It is one of the more visually distinctive explosions in the game, which is part of why it has its fair share of fans.

Like Beach Party, its rarity comes from limited seasonal availability rather than hard exclusivity. Six Item Shop appearances over several years means a lot of players simply never saw it come up in rotation. The Spring Fever series that it originates from is not always active, making it even rarer than other goal explosions.

6. Beach Party

Release date: June 11, 2018

How it was obtained: From the Beach Blast series blueprints and drops. Also available in Select Favorites 2 and has appeared in the Item Shop nine times for 800 Credits.

Can you get it now? Yes, through Item Shop appearances and blueprint drops from the Beach Blast series.

Beach Party is an Exotic goal explosion tied to Rocket League’s summer event content. It is fun, colourful, and very much in the spirit of the Beach Blast event it came from, but its seasonal appearance is exactly why it is considered rare.

Nine Item Shop appearances might sound like a lot, but those appearances are spread across years of content updates. Players who weren’t active during any of those windows, or who didn’t follow the shop closely, never had the chance to pick it up. It is obtainable today, but it takes time and luck.

5. Happy Holidays

Release date: December 11, 2017

How it was obtained: Originally from the Secret Santa crate. Available from Secret Santa blueprint drops and has appeared in the Item Shop six times for 500 Credits.

Can you get it now? Only during seasonal events when the Secret Santa series is active.

Happy Holidays is a seasonal Import goal explosion that only becomes relevant once a year, and even then, it is not guaranteed to appear. It was first released during the Frosty Fest event in December 2017 as a drop from the Secret Santa crate, and its availability has always been tied to the holiday season.

What makes it rare is its exclusivity to a single time of year. Players who missed it when it was available or who didn’t play during the winter events simply don’t have it. And unlike Black Market explosions, it didn’t command a high price, which means fewer players who want to trade for it didn’t actively chase it.

4. Sub-Zero

Release date: July 5, 2017

How it was obtained: Originally from the Overdrive crate. Also available from the Velocity Series. Has appeared in the Item Shop twice for 2,000 Credits.

Can you get it now? Yes, but rarely. It appears in the Item Shop infrequently and can be obtained from several Golden drop series.

Sub-Zero is one of the oldest Black Market goal explosions in the game. When you score, ice stalactite structures shoot up from the ground before being shattered by the explosion. It is clean, satisfying, and one of the most iconic explosions Rocket League has ever produced.

Its age is a big part of what makes it rare. It has been in the game since 2017, but Item Shop appearances are infrequent, and while it does show up in certain blueprint drops, it is far from guaranteed. Painted variants, particularly Titanium White, have historically commanded some of the highest prices of any goal explosion in the game.

3. Dueling Dragons

Release date: December 4, 2017

How it was obtained: Originally from the Velocity Series drops. Has appeared in Golden drops since and is listed as available from blueprints.

Can you get it now? Technically, yes, but it is extremely difficult to obtain. It sits as one of the rarest  non-painted Black Market items in the game, and painted variants push that value significantly higher.

Dueling Dragons is the most famous goal explosion in Rocket League, and for a good reason. Two massive dragons erupting across the screen is one of the most visually spectacular moments the game has to offer.

But knowing it exists and actually owning it are two very different things. As a Black Market rarity item, it can only be obtained through chance drops, blueprints, or Item Shop appearances, and the price reflects how desirable it is. Getting your hands on a painted variant is even harder.

2. Tactical Nuke

Release date: December 19, 2019

How it was obtained: By linking your gaming platform account to Twitch Prime and maintaining an active subscription for 83 consecutive days to unlock all four Twitch Prime Packs with Tactical Nuke locked inside Pack 4.

Can you get it now? No. The Twitch Prime promotion has ended and is no longer available.

Tactical Nuke is one of the most effort-gated goal explosions ever released. It wasn’t locked behind money or a season-based event. You had to actively maintain a Twitch Prime subscription for 83 straight days just to unlock the fourth and final pack containing it.

Although you can get various painted versions of this Goal Explosion now, the truly rare variant is its unpainted one. It is so loud and bright that it makes the whole monitor go bright. Many players enjoy it as a “flashbang”. And this unpainted variation hasn’t returned ever since. The painted variations also had their brightness nerfed, so it’s not quite the same feeling.

The combination of a long subscription requirement, a limited-time promotion, and the sheer dedication needed to see it through makes Tactical Nuke one of the rarest explosions in the game. The Twitch Prime collaboration has since ended with no sign of returning, leaving this one permanently out of reach for anyone who missed it.

1. Hot Wheels RC Rivals Goal Explosion

Release date: November 1, 2018

How it was obtained: By purchasing the Hot Wheels Rocket League RC Rivals toy set, which included a one-time redemption code.

Can you get it now? No. Codes expired after August 2020, and the explosion is non-tradeable.

The Hot Wheels RC Rivals explosion is considered the rarest goal explosion in Rocket League..

But what actually made it so rare?

It starts with the price. The RC Rivals toy set was sold for $179.99, a significant amount to pay for a physical product, let alone one where the Rocket League goal explosion was just a bonus on top. Most players who walked past it in a store had no idea a rare in-game item was bundled inside. And even if they did know, not many were willing to spend that much for it.

Then the window closed. The codes stopped working after August 2020, and Psyonix has never brought the explosion back in any form. No Item Shop rotation. No blueprint. No alternative method. And because it is non-tradeable, even the players who own it cannot sell or pass it on.

How to Get the Rarest Goal Explosions in Rocket League

So you’ve seen the list. Now the question is, how can you actually get some of these rarest goal explosions?

The honest answer is: it depends on which one you’re after.

For the explosions that still rotate through the Item Shop: Happy Holidays, Beach Party, Butterflies, Fireworks, Electroshock, and Hellfire, the most reliable approach is to check the shop daily and have Credits ready. The Item Shop refreshes regularly, and with enough patience, most of these will eventually come back around.

For Black Market explosions like Dueling Dragons, Sub-Zero, Fireworks, Electroshock, and Hellfire, blueprints and Golden drop series are another way. Post-match drops can yield blueprints from various series, and while the odds of hitting a specific Black Market item are low, it is a free route that adds up over time.

For the ones that are fully locked, Tactical Nuke and Hot Wheels RC Rivals, there is no official path left. The promotions ended, the codes expired, and Psyonix has not announced any plans to bring them back. Some players look for old unused Hot Wheels codes on resale platforms, but availability is essentially zero, and any remaining codes are unverified.

The only way to get your hands on these fully locked goal explosions or get the other rare ones faster is to buy a Rocket League account that already has them. Many long-time players who no longer play have accounts loaded with legacy items, including explosions from events and promotions that are no longer available anywhere else. It is the only realistic path to owning some of the explosions on this list in 2026.
