Best Hero Equipment in Clash of Clans

The best Hero Equipment in Clash of Clans includes Giant Gauntlet for the Barbarian King, Frozen Arrow for the Archer Queen, Eternal Tome for the Grand Warden, and Hog Puppet for the Royal Champion. Learn the strongest builds, tier rankings, and equipment synergies for every Hero.

Hero Equipment defines how your four Heroes perform in battle. Each piece changes a Hero’s stats, ability, or playstyle – and picking the wrong loadout will cost you stars even with a correctly deployed army.

The right equipment directly affects how much work a Hero can do before falling.

Here are the widely used default picks per Hero in the current meta:

  • Barbarian King: Giant Gauntlet (primary), Spiky Ball (secondary)
  • Archer Queen: Frozen Arrow (primary), Giant Arrow (secondary)
  • Grand Warden: Eternal Tome (primary), Rage Gem (secondary)
  • Royal Champion: Hog Puppet (primary), Haste Vial (secondary)

Note: equipment effectiveness depends on your Town Hall level, army composition, and how upgraded your pieces are. The picks above are strong defaults – not the only valid choices.

Clash of Clans Hero Equipment Tier List

COC Hero equipment tier list

Not every piece of equipment works the same way across all Heroes. Each Hero occupies a distinct tactical role: the Barbarian King is a ground tank, the Archer Queen is a precision unit, the Grand Warden is a support anchor, and the Royal Champion is a fast-moving air defense killer.

An item that increases survivability is worth far more on the BK than on the Warden, who stays behind the army and rarely takes direct hits. A speed boost does very little for a Hero who is stationary by design.

The table below lists the default S-tier picks for each Hero – the items that perform well in the widest range of attack strategies. Multiple valid builds exist, and the second slot in particular is often flexible.

Hero Default S-Tier #1 Default S-Tier #2 Why These Work
Barbarian King Giant Gauntlet Spiky Ball Giant Gauntlet triggers giant form, damage reduction, and splash on ability use. Spiky Ball adds AoE burst. Reliable across almost all ground army types.
Archer Queen Frozen Arrow Giant Arrow Frozen Arrow applies a per-hit slow during the Queen Walk. Giant Arrow pierces walls for direct charges. Which you run depends on your strategy.
Grand Warden Eternal Tome Rage Gem Eternal Tome provides near-invincibility for nearby troops. Rage Gem adds a damage and speed buff. Second slot is flexible depending on army type.
Royal Champion Hog Puppet Haste Vial Hog Puppet splits defensive fire on ability use. Haste Vial covers ground faster. Rocket Spear is a valid alternative when direct removal is the priority.

Giant Gauntlet (BK): On ability use, this item converts the King into giant form, adds substantial HP, applies damage reduction, and adds ground splash to his attacks. At max level, the combined effect changes how base designers account for the King in funnel plans. It is the most consistent first-slot choice at every Town Hall level where the BK is available.

Frozen Arrow (AQ): Each attack the Queen makes applies a slow to the target hit. Defenses fire less frequently during the Queen Walk, giving Healers more time to maintain her HP and extending how far she can travel. For Queen Walk strategies, this is the default first-slot pick.

Eternal Tome (GW): Full invincibility on a timer is the most reliable support option at this slot. The Warden’s role is to keep nearby troops alive through the most dangerous phase of the raid, and Eternal Tome does that more consistently than any other option here.

Hog Puppet (RC): The Champion already applies pressure with her Seeking Shield. The Hog Puppet deploys additional Hogs on ability activation, splitting the focus of single-target defenses and extending her survivability during the window.

Best Equipment for Barbarian King

The Barbarian King’s primary function is ground tanking. His equipment should reinforce that role first. The Giant Gauntlet handles survivability and defines his ability window. The second slot is genuinely flexible depending on army type – Spiky Ball for burst, Vampstache for sustain.

Equipment Tier Description
Giant Gauntlet S Triggers giant form on ability use. Adds substantial HP, applies damage reduction during the activation window, and adds ground splash. The primary tanking tool for almost any ground attack.
Spiky Ball S Rolling AoE on ability use. Clears clusters of defenses and troops. Works best alongside the Giant Gauntlet.
Barbarian Puppet A Summons Barbarians on ability use. Provides distraction value. Not the default pick anymore, but still functional in armies where extra units matter.
Earthquake Boots A Deals splash AoE on ability trigger. Useful for pathing through tightly packed base cores. Situationally viable if Spiky Ball is not leveled.
Vampstache B Restores HP when the King kills units. Extends uptime on longer raids with consistent kill chains. The second slot is flexible – Vampstache is a reasonable choice when sustain outweighs burst.
Rage Vial C Provides a short damage and speed boost with no survivability gain. Wastes the slot the Giant Gauntlet would otherwise fill.

Best Equipment for Grand Warden

The Grand Warden does not attack defenses the way the other three Heroes do.

His value comes from his passive aura, which reduces damage taken by nearby troops, and his active ability, which triggers the equipment effect.

His equipment tier list is entirely different from the BK or Queen. Because his items provide massive, army-wide value rather than individual stat boosts, he genuinely does not have any “bad” or purely niche (B or C-tier) equipment in the current meta.

All of his available pieces are highly competitive. Survivability boosts for the Warden himself are largely irrelevant. Everything should revolve around what his ability does for the army around him.

The second slot is genuinely open. Rage Gem is the default for high-DPS armies. Life Gem suits tanky compositions. Healing Tome works when recovery between clusters matters. Fireball is the right call in specific high-skill setups where removing a cluster of defenses with the ability directly opens the path.

Equipment Tier Description
Eternal Tome S Grants full invincibility to nearby troops on ability use. The most reliable support option at this slot. Default pick for nearly every army type.
Rage Gem S Provides a damage and speed buff aura on ability use. Paired with Eternal Tome, creates a window where nearby troops are invincible and deal increased damage. Widely used in high-DPS armies.
Life Gem A Increases the HP of nearby troops within aura range. Effective in slower, tanky army compositions where durability matters more than burst. A valid second slot alternative to Rage Gem.
Healing Tome A Heals a large group of troops at once on ability use. More useful in sustain-heavy armies. Works as a second slot swap when armies need HP recovery over speed.
Fireball A Deals area damage on ability use. Stronger than its reputation suggests. Used in specific high-skill setups – particularly blimp strategies and targeted base-opening plays – where removing a cluster of defenses on ability activation directly enables the main army. Not the default, but a legitimate choice for players who plan their ability timing.

Best Equipment for Royal Champion

The Royal Champion targets defenses with the highest damage output against air troops. She is a precision tool and her equipment should support speed and reach.

Unlike the other Heroes who travel with the main army, the Champion frequently operates alone. Her equipment needs to let her survive that exposure while clearing the specific targets she was sent after.

Hog Puppet and Haste Vial work well in most layouts. Rocket Spear is a strong alternative when direct removal of a specific defense is the priority – but it is more situational than the other two S-tier options.

Equipment Tier Description
Hog Puppet S Deploys additional Hogs on ability use. Splits incoming fire from single-target defenses, keeping the Champion alive through the Seeking Shield charge. Widely used across TH levels.
Haste Vial S Boosts movement speed. Gets the Champion to Air Defenses before they deal significant damage. Works well in most layouts.
Rocket Spear S Throws a high-damage spear at a target structure on ability use. Strong for direct removal of a specific defense. Best when the Champion is sent to clear a single high-value target and the base layout supports it. More situational than Hog Puppet or Haste Vial.
Giant Gauntlet A Increases survivability. Keeps the Champion on the field long enough for multiple ability cycles. Worth considering on bases where she takes heavy sustained fire.
Seeking Shield (Boost) A Amplifies Seeking Shield damage output. Useful when the Champion needs to destroy two or three air defenses in a single run without extra distraction help.

Equipment Importance in COC

Equipment works within a system of roles, not just raw stats. This is why the same item can perform well for one Hero and add almost nothing for another.

On the Barbarian King, the Giant Gauntlet’s ability window converts him into giant form, reduces incoming damage, and adds ground splash. The increased HP extends his time in the base and gives the army behind him more time to spread. The same item on the Grand Warden adds HP to a Hero who already avoids direct fire – the ability slot is wasted.

Frozen Arrow works on the same principle. The Archer Queen benefits from the per-hit slow because she moves through defenses over a long distance and needs each one to fire less frequently. The Royal Champion’s approach is short and target-specific. A slow on her targets changes nothing when the goal is to destroy two Air Defenses and exit.

Equipment also interacts with army composition. Eternal Tome performs best in armies with many troops clustered together, since the invincibility aura needs a large group to matter. Rage Gem works best in armies that already deal high damage and just need a short window to finish a key structure. Neither choice is wrong in isolation – the right call depends on what the army needs.

Identify the Hero’s role first. Then select equipment that extends it.

Best Equipment Combinations for Each Hero: Synergies Explained

How two pieces interact with each other often matters more than either item alone. Below are the most consistent two-slot pairings per Hero, the mechanical reason each works, and when to use it.

Hero Combination Effect Best Use Case
Barbarian King Giant Gauntlet + Spiky Ball Tank + AoE burst. Giant form and damage reduction keep the King alive while the ball clears surrounding defenses. Ground spam, Zap Witch, Super Goblin armies – anywhere a durable front-liner is the funneling mechanism.
Barbarian King Giant Gauntlet + Vampstache Tank + sustain. The King heals on kills and stays on the field through multiple compartments without needing an ability reset. Long, winding bases with frequent small defense clusters where the King gets consistent kill chains.
Archer Queen Frozen Arrow + Archer Puppet Per-hit slow + summon. Defenses fire less frequently; summoned Archers draw incoming fire and extend the walk. Standard Queen Walk with 4 Healers, especially against Scatter Shots or bases with exposed ground defenses.
Archer Queen Giant Arrow + Action Figure Wall penetration + tanky unit. The arrow opens paths; the summoned tank draws fire during the charge. Queen Charge into a tightly compartmented base core.
Grand Warden Eternal Tome + Rage Gem Invincibility + damage amplification. Overlapping windows mean nearby troops cannot die and deal increased damage simultaneously. Hybrid armies, Super Witch, Lalo – where a single high-DPS window around the Town Hall decides the final star.
Grand Warden Eternal Tome + Life Gem Invincibility + HP bonus. Troops enter the invincibility window with higher HP, which matters through multi-cluster bases. Slower armies like GoWiPe or Yeti Smash where volume and longevity matter more than burst damage.
Royal Champion Hog Puppet + Haste Vial Distraction + speed. Hogs split defensive fire while the Champion reaches the next target faster. Anti-3-star bases with tightly grouped Air Defenses and Eagle Artilleries.
Royal Champion Rocket Spear + Haste Vial Direct removal + speed. The spear takes out the first target; Haste Vial repositions her to the second. Hybrid attacks where the Champion must independently clear two or three specific air defenses without army support.

Barbarian King

  • Giant Gauntlet + Spiky Ball: The Gauntlet triggers giant form and damage reduction, keeping the King alive through heavy fire. Spiky Ball adds AoE damage that clears the clustered defenses and troops around him. Works well in Super Goblin, Zap Witch, and any ground army where a durable front-liner is the primary funneling mechanism. The most consistent BK loadout.
  • Giant Gauntlet + Vampstache: Trades burst damage for sustain. Vampstache restores HP when the King kills units, extending his uptime across multiple compartments without needing an ability reset. Most effective on winding bases with frequent small defense clusters where the King gets consistent kills.

Archer Queen

  • Frozen Arrow + Archer Puppet: The most consistent Queen Walk pairing. The per-hit slow reduces how frequently defenses fire, giving Healers more time to keep the Queen alive. Summoned Archers draw incoming fire and extend the walk’s reach. Underperforms against bases with centralized Air Bombs because the Archers are vulnerable to them.
  • Giant Arrow + Action Figure: Built for the Queen Charge. The Arrow pierces wall clusters on ability use, dealing damage to structures behind them. The Action Figure deploys a large tank unit that absorbs fire while the Queen works. Best against base cores with tightly stacked compartments that a walk cannot reach.

Grand Warden

  • Eternal Tome + Rage Gem: The widely used combination for high-damage armies. Eternal Tome activates invincibility for a set duration while Rage Gem adds a damage and speed buff on top. The overlapping window means the nearby army cannot die and deals increased damage at the same time. Critical in hybrid attacks, Super Witch, and Lalo where one clean push around the Town Hall decides the final star.
  • Eternal Tome + Life Gem: For slower, heavier armies. The Tome provides invincibility during the main push. Life Gem’s HP bonus aura means troops enter that window with more total health, which matters when the army needs to survive multiple defensive clusters before cleanup. Works well with GoWiPe, Yeti Smash, and volume-based compositions.
  • Eternal Tome + Fireball: A high-skill option for specific blimp and precision-attack strategies. The Fireball’s ability damage removes a cluster of defenses at the exact moment the main army arrives, which can open a base path that other pairings cannot. Requires deliberate timing and base reading to use effectively.

Royal Champion

  • Hog Puppet + Haste Vial: The most widely used competitive loadout. Haste Vial gets the Champion to Air Defenses before they deal significant damage. On ability activation, the Hog Puppet deploys Hogs that split incoming fire from single-target defenses. Keeps the Champion alive through two or three ability cycles in most standard base layouts.
  • Rocket Spear + Haste Vial: A damage-forward alternative. The Rocket Spear removes one high-value target directly on ability use. Haste Vial repositions the Champion to the next target at speed. Works best in hybrid attacks where the Champion must independently clear two Air Defenses and an Eagle Artillery without army support and the base layout supports direct removal.

How to Gain Better Equipment in COC?

Equipment is managed through the Blacksmith, which unlocks as you progress through Town Hall levels. New equipment pieces unlock through the Blacksmith itself, seasonal events, and the in-game Trader. There are no separate crafting materials required beyond Ore.

Upgrading equipment costs three types of Ore: Shiny, Glowy, and Starry. Shiny Ore drops from standard Home Village raids through the Star Bonus. Glowy Ore comes primarily from Clan War League. Starry Ore is the rarest and drops from seasonal events, Clan Games, and the Trader on a limited rotation.

Starry Ore is the main bottleneck for maxing Epic equipment.

For players building from scratch: focus Starry Ore on two or three priority pieces – Eternal Tome, Giant Gauntlet, and Frozen Arrow – rather than spreading it across every item. A fully upgraded Epic piece outperforms three partially upgraded ones.Clan War Leagues run once per month and are the most consistent source of Glowy Ore. Players who want to skip the early progression phase and start with equipment already developed have the option to look at pre-built accounts. If you are looking to buy COC accounts, there are dedicated marketplaces that list profiles at various Town Hall levels with equipment already in place. For free-to-play players, staying active in a Clan that participates in CWL every month is the most consistent way to accumulate Glowy Ore. Missing CWL cycles noticeably slows equipment progression.
